Asking 'How much will it cost to publish my book?" is much like asking "How much does a new car cost?" There are many options to consider: How many books will be printed? How many pages? Hardback or softcover? How much labor is required to get the book ready for printing and binding?
A few things to
think about before Ameba can supply a quote:
- Are
text and images your own originals or does anyone else have claim to them?
- Who is
your audience (adults, children, family, specific profession, etc.)?
- You
will be responsible for marketing your book. Ameba Publishing may ask permission to
show your book as an example of our publishing services, but will not be
involved in sales.
Outside of book – options to consider
- Softcover (paperback) or hardback.
- Outside
dimensions (common softcover is approx. 5 ½ x 8 ½. Children’s books are usually larger.)
- Binding: (Perfect Bound, Saddle Stitch, wire,
plastic comb (like a cookbook)
- Color
or B/W. We recommend a color cover
if you plan to sell the book.
- Cover
Stock (weight & quality of paper)
- Cover printed on inside pages, or only on
outside (inside will add to cost)
- Book
Jacket or not
- Foil
stamping
- Embossing
- Laminated
(for protection). We recommend this.
- Text
and images already on compatible digital files (if not, how much prep
required)
- How
much editing is required for grammar and structure
- Images
& Artwork provided in a finished state, or is an artist required
Inside of book – options to consider
- B/W
only? (color adds cost, but may be best for your type of book)
- Color
Photos or Halftone (B&W) Photos? How Many? Will you provide high resolution scanned
images, or will Ameba Publishing make them?
- Weight,
color & finish of paper
- Will
text be provided on digital file (best) or will it be camera ready?
